Our Accompanist

Accompanist of Warwickshire Singers, David J. King

David J. King

David was born in Rugby, and was encouraged to play the piano from an early age, attaining his Grade 8 while still at school, where he also started accompanying fellow students for their instrumental exams. He later studied for his diplomas in performing and accompanying with Rita Dawkins at Rugby College. He continues to support young musicians, teaching piano and music theory, and providing accompaniment for instrumental examinations. In 1984, David became repetiteur for the Rugby Operatic Society (now called ROAMS) and remained in this post for 22 productions before becoming their Musical Director for a large number of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and a wide variety of musicals. David has a particular interest in musical theatre and has directed many pantomimes. He plays in the pit orchestra for youth theatre projects in Rugby and productions at the Concordia Theatre in Hinckley. He also currently works with two other choirs in the Rugby area.

David joined Warwickshire Singers in 1990 and has performed with them all over the county and in Europe, especially at concerts with La Villanelle de Sceaux, our twinned choir near Paris with whom we have a long-standing relationship. David is very pleased to be playing for the Warwickshire Singers in their recent resurgence of membership under the direction of Jim Bate, complementing the rehearsal experience.
