David King - Accompanist

David J. King LTCL, A Mus TCL, ATCL, ALCM

David was born in Rugby and encouraged to play the piano from an early age.  He attained his Grade 8 while still at school, where he also started accompanying fellow students for their instrumental exams.

David later studied for his diplomas in performing and accompanying with Rita Dawkins at Warwickshire College where he is now employed as accompanist for exams and theory tutor.

In 1984 David became repetiteur for the Rugby Operatic Society and remained in this post for 22 productions before becoming their Musical Director for a large number of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and a wide variety of musicals.

David has a particular interest in the theatre and has directed many pantomimes (Oh yes he has!).  He plays in the pit orchestra for youth theatre projects at the Concordia Theatre in Hinkley and has worked for Warwickshire Music in theatrical productions and with choirs.

David joined the Warwickshire Singers in 1990 and has performed with them all over the county and in Europe, especially at concerts with the Villanelle de Sceaux, our twinned choir near Paris with whom we have a long standing relationship.  He is a skilled arranger of music from any century or in any style to suit the requirements of the choir.

David continues to support young musicians providing accompaniment for grade examinations, diplomas and degrees.

We are particularly grateful that David stood in as Musical Director during the difficult Covid period 2021-22 until we were able to appoint a new MD.
